PE Buttweld Fittings
Buttweld jointing is recommended largely for sizes 355mm and over as it becomes more cost effective than using the Electrofusion jointing method. Like electrofusion, if butt welding done correctly the weld becomes at least as strong as the pipework itself. Buttweld fittings include fabricated fittings - for pipe lines that require something out of the ordinary. Fittings are available in a range of pressure ratings from PN4 upto PN25.
Butt welding is a more complex process than electrofusion and therefore installers must hold training certification.Dependant on the size and ground conditions, there is a variety of different sized butt welding machinery available.
UPG can provide training and have a range of welders available for sale or hire.
Note: all spigot fittings can be butt welded - the defining point is that the butt weld reducers and flanges, as pictured below, cannot be welded into a pipeline with electrofusion couplers.
