UPG are currently supplying the Dynatherm PP-RCT piping system for the hot & cold plumbing reticulation in the new Acute Services Building at Christchurch Hospital.
The Acute Services Building (ASB) is the largest government project in the Canterbury rebuild. The building will have a floor area of 62,000m² and is being constructed to Importance Level 4 (IL4), ensuring it will be a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors. There is approximately 45,000m of Dynatherm PP-RCT pipe being installed in this landmark project. The $463 million building is scheduled to open in 2018.
The plumbing contractor, PHP Plumbing, chose to use PP-RCT instead of PP-R because of the superior raw material characteristics; higher temperature resistance, higher chemical resistance, and longer life.
Using the Dynatherm PP-RCT pipe system allowed PHP to install pipes with a smaller outer diameter throughout the project. This is because PP-RCT pipes have a reduced wall thickness for the same pressure rating. This advantage alone has saved a huge amount of cost in pipe fittings, pipe clamps, pipe weight and welding times.
